29 - Habitat for Humanity |
San
Francisco |
|
Saturday 8.30
AM
The San Francisco-Bay Area chapter has planned an exciting hands-on
day with Habitat
for Humanity, working on the construction of some homes in Daly
City.
MESJ San Francisco has committed to a group of at least 15 people
to help at the Daly City Habitat for Humanity site. This particular
project is the construction of 4 homes for needy families who otherwise
could not afford a home. These homes are build entirely by volunteer
efforts, such as the one we are trying to organize. The gift of
the security of a home for families is probably one of the greatest
you can give.Hopefully many will be willing to sacrifice a Saturday
for this cause. There are various tasks assigned at the site and
some are less strenuous than others. They vary from jackhammering,
nailing boards/panel, to painting or helping transport supplies.
The time commitment is 8:30 am- 4:30 pm (a normal workday with breaks).
Since a count of the number that will be coming is needed , please
email back if you can or cannot be part of this volunteer effort.
Also, it would be appreciated if you would let any friends/ family
know about this. If you are able to recruit more volunteers, please
give me their name and email address.
with directions and instructions for the site.

- Saturday Night at the Movies |
Las
Vegas |
|
Saturday 7PM
MESJ Las Vegas Center
The Las Vegas chapter will meet to watch the DVD:
Truth and
Conviction - The Helmuth Hubener Story
Hitler's Nazi regime had seized unbelievable control over the
German people, directing what they read, what they said--even what
they believed. A whispered criticism of the Nazi Party could lead
to a Gestapo interrogation and prison. But sixteen-year-old Helmuth
Hubener saw through Hitler's lies and took action to let the truth
be known. Helmuth Hubener and two friends from his LDS branch formed
a resistance group. The three of them printed and distributed flyers
through Hamburg that denounced Hitler and his propaganda machine.
This documentary chronicles what happened to these young men, and
the ultimate price paid by those who dared to stand up for the truth.
