Amnesty International: Tonga and Human Rights
Tonga cannot escape international scrutiny of its human rights record by virtue of its size and isolation, Amnesty International said following the arrest by Tongan police of two politicians and a journalist.

2006 Riots in the capital Nuku'alofa
Rioting broke out after the Assembly of Tonga (the majority of which is appointed by the King) was due to adjourn for the year and despite promises of action, had done nothing to advance democracy in the government.
