Fahrenheit 9/11 - video
Fahrenheit 9/11 is Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore's searing examination of the Bush administration's actions in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11.
September 11 Reflection
I discovered something interesting a few weeks ago. September 11 is not only the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It is also the anniversary of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

New York - Bulletin Board

From a report of a New York chapter meeting:

We discuss participatory democracy, and the quandaries we face when trying to translate our religious beliefs into votes and/or policy arguments. We touch on the often uncomfortable process of bringing deeply-held, faith-based opinions into the public sphere, whether that is appropriate, and how it makes our non-religious counterparts feel.
We explore how participation itself is a vital way of exercising our "active liberty," and how important it is that we do not surrender the most consequential decisions to elected representatives, who may be
less inclined to "represent" than engage in horse trading and interest brokering.

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers
May 29

Read:
Matthew 5:9 (3 Nephi 12:9)

Explain:
This day pays tribute to the men and women who have served in UN peacekeeping operations, some of whom have lost their lives in the cause of peace. UN peacekeepers are soldiers or civilians who help maintain peace in areas where armed conflict has recently ended. Peacekeepers aid in political transitions and economic reconstruction, supervise elections, disarm militias, distribute humanitarian aid, and resettle refugees. Today, there are 53,000 UN peacekeepers, most of them serving in Africa. In 2004, peacekeeping cost the United Nations more than $4 billion--but that is less than one half of 1 per cent of the world’s combined military spending.

Pray:
Give thanks for peace and political stability.
Pray for UN peacekeepers and for the people they serve.
Pray that countries will find non-violent solutions to conflict.
