Human Rights Day
December 10
Read:
D&C 101:76-77
Explain:
Heavenly Father wills there should be laws to protect the rights of all His children. On December 10, 1948, one of the most important documents ever written was adopted: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration defines the rights to which every human being on earth is entitled. However, as Latter-day Saints know from their own history, these rights are not always respected. We still witness inequality and injustice, discrimination, racism, political repression, religious persecution, war atrocities, even attempts at genocide. Human Rights Day reminds us to keep working for a world where the rights of all flesh are respected.
Pray:
- Give thanks for the blessings of constitutional and international law.
- Give thanks for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- Pray for those whose human rights are restricted or violated.
- Pray that a spirit of respect for all people will prevail on earth.
