World Television Day
November 21
Read:
D&C 121:33
Explain:
Television plays a powerful role in bringing the world together. It makes us aware of the needs of people living on the other side of the globe, and it has great potential for education. The transmission and reception system that makes television possible was invented in the 1920s by a Latter-day Saint named Philo Farnsworth. Thus the invention of television can be seen as one way that the Saints have contributed to the improvement of the world. World Television Day is observed each year to focus on television's potential for promoting peace, development, and cultural exchanges. It also commemorates the first UN World Television Forum, which convened on November 21, 1996.
Pray:
- Give thanks for the ways television enriches your family's life.
- Give thanks for the downpouring of knowledge that allowed Philo Farnsworth to invent television.
- Pray that societies will find new ways to use television as a force for good.
