World Habitat Day
1st Monday in October

Read:
1 Nephi 17:36

Explain:
The scriptures tell us that God created the earth so that we could inhabit it. But many people today do not have habitable places to live. Up to one billion people are homeless or live in makeshift shelters. With half the world's population living in urban centers, slums have become a major global concern. Many people do not have adequate water, sewage, or power. Pollution and other forms of environmental degradation make the earth less habitable as well. World Habitat Day was established in 1985 to devote worldwide attention to the challenges of ensuring adequate housing for all people and a habitable environment.

Pray:

  • Give thanks for your home and its comforts.
  • Pray for those who are homeless or who are living in makeshift camps or slums.
  • Pray that societies will give greater priority to ensuring that all people have adequate housing.
  • Pray that people will keep the earth habitable by being wise stewards of the environment.
