World Post Day
October 9
Read:
Proverbs 25:25
Explain:
Despite the increasing use of telecommunication, the postal service still plays a key role in keeping people around the world connected. There are over 6 million postal workers and 700,000 post offices worldwide. More than 400 billion letters are delivered each year. On October 9, 1874, delegates from 22 countries signed the first International Postal Convention in an effort to create uniform principles for international postal services. Out of that treaty eventually grew the Universal Postal Union. World Post Day commemorates the signing of the International Postal Convention and honors postal workers for their important contribution to international communication.
Pray:
- Give thanks for the way postal services keep people around the world connected.
- Give thanks that quick and efficient international mail service is available to help the Church carry out its mission.
- Pray that efficient international communication will promote greater understanding among the world's peoples.
