Explain:
The scriptures tell us that God has created worlds without number. It
is exciting to live during a time when human beings have the capability
to begin exploring worlds beyond our own. Space exploration opens up new
possibilities for understanding the universe (including our own earth),
for developing technology, and for harnessing natural resources. World
Space Week celebrates these possibilites and encourages international
cooperation in space outreach. World Space Week begins on October 4, the
date of the first successful satellite launch in 1957. It ends on October
10, the date when the first international treaty on space exploration
entered into force in 1967.
Pray:
- Give thanks for the progress in human knowledge that has made space
exploration possible.
- Give thanks for the ways space technology blesses people's lives.
(Think, for example, of how satellites have opened up new possibilites
for communication, education, and monitoring the earth's environment.)
- Pray that knowledge will continue to be poured down on the heads of
those involved in space technology.
- Pray that the benefits of space technology will be shared equally
among the world's people.
