International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
September 16
Read:
Isaiah 40:22 or Jeremiah 51:15
Explain:
The world our Heavenly Father created is both awesome and fragile. As
human beings have developed greater technology, they have also developed
the ability to inflict greater harm on the environment. It is now recognized
that certain chemicals damage the ozone layer, which protects the earth
from harmful radiation. International agreements have made such chemicals
illegal, and alternative chemicals have been introduced to replace them.
These agreements are not always kept, however. The International Day for
the Preservation of the Ozone Layer commemorates the signing of the Montreal
Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer on September 16, 1987.
Pray:
- Give thanks for the ozone layer, which God created to protect the earth from harmful radiation.
- Give thanks for international efforts to protect the ozone layer.
- Pray that governments and industries will respect the international agreements banning ozone-damaging substances.
