Activity:
Ask family members to come to home evening prepared to give brief presentations about women who have promoted justice, equality, peace, or wise stewardship of the earth. Examples might include:

  • Jane Addams
  • Susan B. Anthony
  • Rachel Carson
  • Mother Jones
  • Rosa Parks
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • Sojourner Truth
  • Rigoberta Menchú Tum

You might be especially interested in learning about Mormon women such as suffragist Emmeline B. Wells or labor and consumer activist Esther Peterson.

Read:
Matthew 5:16 (3 Nephi 12:16)
D&C 58:27-28
D&C 64:33

"[R]ise to the stature of that divinity [within you]. In that effort make the world in which you live a better place for yourself and for all who will come after you. There is much to do. There are many challenges to be met." (Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign [Nov. 1989]: 94)

Discuss:
How do the women we've learned about tonight exemplify the principles taught in these passages?
How do members of our family--male or female--work to make the world a better place?
What wisdom or inspiration can we draw from the examples of the women we've learned about tonight?
