Resolved to Do Good

Suggested Hymns:
Have I Done Any Good? (Hymns 223)
Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel (Hymns 252)

Read:
D&C 58:27-28
First Presidency letter: Citizen Participation (15 Jan. 1998; in Ensign [Apr. 1998]: 77)

Discuss:
What problems currently face our community? our society? our world?
What efforts are being made by government or like-minded individuals to address these problems?
In what different ways can citizens support these efforts? (Donating time or money, voting for leaders we believe can best address these problems, etc.)

Read:
Mosiah 4:26-27
D&C 46:11-12

Discuss:
What gifts or talents do members of our family have that could be used to serve others?
What would be some simple ways that family members might get more involved in helping to solve community or social problems, without overextending themselves?

Activity:
Either as a family or as individuals, make a New Year's resolution to become more involved, in some specific way, in helping to solve community or social problems. Take into account family members' particular talents or passions.

One year from now, you could use the lesson, "Taking Stock of the Year," to follow up on this resolution.
