The Gifts of Providence

Suggested Hymns:
A Song of Thanks (Children's Songbook 20)
Thanks to Our Father (Children's Songbook 20)
Because I Have Been Given Much (Hymns 219)

Discuss:
Ask family members to brainstorm a list of temporal blessings for which they are thankful (home, food, health, technology, freedom, etc.).

Read:
Jacob 2:13-14
Mosiah 2:20-21
D&C 49:19-20

Discuss:
Look back over the list of blessings you brainstormed. To what degree does our enjoyment of these comforts and privileges result from factors beyond our control?

What difference does it make to know that everything we have is a gift? How does God expect us to use the material blessings we have been given?

The scriptures say that God does not will that one person should possess more than another. So why is there so much poverty and inequality in the world?

Activity:
As a family, make a thanksgiving offering of money, time, food, or clothing to a cause that somehow serves people in need.
