Moral Bankruptcy
We count ourselves among those who question the wisdom of BYU's Board of Trustees inviting Cheney to speak, given the moral bankruptcy of his record.
Listen to a
NPR report by Howard Burkes.
Petition to oppose Dick Cheney's BYU Speech
Over 3,000 students, alumni and some faculty signed a petition opposing Cheney's BYU appearance. Now that the event is over, the organizers are preparing to send the petition to Church headquarters.
Adam Barlow - Free Speech Zone at BYU
Informative video clip about two hours of free speech at BYU and about some very relevant and respectful questions by Adam Barlow that were raised and ignored during a Q&A session with BYU pres. Cecil Samuelson.
BYU Alternative Commencement
BYU students, faculty, alumni, and friends determined to make their voices count, were marching to an alternative commencement following the official graduation ceremony. The
complete audio of the commencement.
Elisa Bushman - Motivated to make a Difference

Ralph Nader and Brigham Young
Ralph Nader accepted an invitation by BYU students to speak after Vice President Dick Cheney would address graduates. Few may realize that Ralph Nader and Brigham Young have similar opinions...

Eric Bybee - an Alternative Vision for our Country
"A lot of people said we couldn't do this, or that we shouldn't do this," said Eric. "We've received ridicule, threats, been called names. Many people have laughed and jeered. But here we are."
Ashley Sanders - Noble to Create and Revise
A moving and compelling address by Ashley Sanders, one of the organizers of the BYU Alternative Commencement for the class of 2007.
Read the entire speech.
Warner P. Woodworth on Dick Cheney
Dick Cheney came to BYU to speak at commencement exercises. We have the dubious distinction of having honored a U.S. official who is going down in flames before our very eyes.
Joe Vogel - an interview on Democracy Now TV
An interview with one of the organizers of the Alternative Commencement; Joe Vogel, a graduate student at BYU. He is also the author of the book "Free Speech 101: The Utah Valley Uproar Over Michael Moore."
Bart Tippetts MESJ
"We want to get back to the tradition at BYU... that when we have commencement speakers we have spiritual leaders that speak to the students of integrity, virtue and going to serve, not a very provocative political leader who may have committed high crimes and misdemeanors." Reports and pictures about the events.

Crystal Young-Otterstrom - The Provo Paradox
If BYU encourages "balanced and respectful political discourse among its faculty," Woodworth and other faculty members should be applauded for tackling this issue with respect and eloquence.
